The spring season marks the return of girls’ lacrosse. Last year, the team finished with a league record of five wins and one loss. The team hopes to continue their momentum into the 24-25 season.
West Ranch girls lacrosse has placed first in the Foothill League for the past four consecutive seasons. Junior team captain Lauren Lamb shared meaning of this accomplishment: “Winning the league would mean so much—not just for us as players and our coaches, but for our school as we will continue our winning streak.”
Although girls lacrosse is full of talented and skilled athletes, there are still challenges that their roster faces. “We graduated quite a few seniors last year, so we have a lot of girls that have been brought up from JV to Varsity,” Coach Leesa Chelminiak explained.

With a batch of new members, communication and chemistry are an important part of the team’s success. Senior Samantha Krantz expanded on this point: “This year we have a lot of newer girls, so we’re really focused on building a strong foundation and getting the basics down.”
This still looks to be a promising season for the Wildcats. Although young, the roster of 10 upperclassmen and seven underclassmen is full of capable players.
The team has developed and grown together in a short period. “I can’t wait to see what it’s going to be like in two weeks, then three weeks, then a month from now, because they are doing such an amazing job and growing each game and each practice,” Coach Chelminiak expressed about the team’s advancements.
To continue to push themselves to the next level, the team is focused on the extra effort they can apply during practice and beyond. Lamb shared that to continuously progress, “It’s not just about practice—it’s also about what we do outside of it.” This means that working on skills that need improvement outside of everyday practice is what will truly show success on the field
The accomplishments this program has achieved over the years is a result of the determination of these athletes. When asked what has made this team successful, Coach Chelminiak underscored, “Hard work, commitment, and the girls that are willing to put in the extra time and effort.”

This season, the girls hope to continue to grow and improve their skills, which will make them hard to beat on the field. “I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited about a team.” Coach Chelminiak reflected.
With many exciting games and moments awaiting this season, make sure you come out and show your support for the Wildcats!
