With fall sports in full swing, West Ranch High School’s Girls Volleyball team is looking to continue their impressive dominance in the Foothill League. The Wildcats have set a high bar for success in recent years, and all eyes are on them as the 2024 season unfolds.
Coming off an outstanding 11-1 league record and a first-place finish next to Hart in the Foothill League last year, the team is hungry for more. Head Coach Jeremy Ker attributes their ongoing success to exceptional team chemistry. Ker expressed, “We’ve been really clicking together. Everybody likes each other, everybody is supporting each other. It’s really fun to watch.”
This team spirit was on full display during their recent match against their longtime rivals, the Hart Hawks, on Sept. 17. The game was more than just another league match; it was a clash between last year’s co-league champions, both of whom ended the 2023 season with identical 11-1 records.
The match started neck and neck, but the Wildcats soon pulled ahead, showcasing their superior skills and teamwork. Freshman phenom Devyn Kobe racked up 13 kills out of the three sets played. She described her performance post-game: “I think I did pretty well today. I think my passing could have been a little better but I didn’t get a lot of chances and I was happy with my attacking.”
Coach Ker acknowledged the competitive match and explained: “Mary, who is the head coach at Hart, is a great coach and usually does a great job with scouting us and preparing for us…they did a much better job making adjustments against us in the second and third sets.”
Despite facing a shortage of seniors this season, the Wildcats have doubled down on teamwork and chemistry. This strategy seems to be paying off, evident after their strong performance against Hart and past league matches.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on the Wildcats to see if they can maintain their momentum. With their focus on team cohesion and continuous improvement, West Ranch’s Girls Volleyball team is setting themselves up as the team to beat in the Foothill League.
As West Ranch continues to strive for greatness towards playoffs make sure to come to the games and support out team!
