West Ranch provides a variety of clubs for students to join based on their personal interests and passions. Of these clubs, West Ranch’s Future Business Leadership of America (FBLA) is one that may pique the interest of students as it provides an invaluable experience for those driven to corporate leadership and business. This is done through students going on various competitions on different types of committees against other schools.
The number of club members has increased significantly over the last year, junior Aiden Jojo, co-president of the FBLA club and president of the FBLA Gold Coast section, explained. “We grew from ten members to a little over seventy in a year, but the biggest thing is quality over quantity.” Jojo believes that the FBLA club will be staying on campus for years to come in the future, continually growing and evolving as a club in West Ranch.
As the FBLA club struggled to keep its momentum after COVID, Mrs. Brosche, who has been the advisor of the FBLA club for the past fifteen years, reaffirmed her strong dedication to strengthening the club membership. Inspired by the growth of the club and the members, she emphasizes how “the students’ passions” are what’s keeping her from working with FBLA.
While FBLA is composed of business and leadership, sophomore Sofia Isabel expressed that the club has helped her grow as a person and gain opportunities, apart from just business association. “[FBLA] taught me a lot about how to improve everyday life, not just business aspects, but things I don’t know such as saving money, meeting other people and being a better leader,” Yuvienco emphasized.
In addition to gaining life lessons through the club, being a part of FBLA could also open up paths to various future career paths. Junior Co-President Sohan Gangupantula highlighted how FBLA could be beneficial towards members with gaining various valuable skills as “it fosters leadership skills.”
Mrs. Brosche acknowledged the commitment and dedication of the club officers and how they helped the club keep being strong over the years: “I’m proud of our officer board for bringing so much attention to the organization and finding traction with our growth.”
Yuvienco concluded with a call to any students interested as she explained, “FBLA’s just a great way to meet new people and learn new things that you definitely would not be learning in school. It’s not just about business.”
